Today on YouTube: Dutch hip-hop talent Typhoon released the beautiful song 'Alleen In De Pauze' (Alone During the Break). With this song, Typhoon (the stage name of Glenn de Randamie) wants to break the taboo surrounding loneliness among young people. The music video was recorded in the enormous Pulppersloods of SugarFactory.
Music with a message
It is well known that loneliness is a major problem in society. But loneliness among young people is still considered taboo, even though around 200,000 young people in the Netherlands feel lonely. This prompted Typhoon, the Join Us Foundation, and T-Mobile to join forces and create a musical work of art. Typhoon's own experiences and conversations with young people who often feel alone, excluded, or isolated inspired him to write the song with lyrics such as "Hood up, I feel safe. I want to stay and disappear at the same time." Stream and/or download "Alleen In De Pauze" here.
Pulppersloods as theater
De Pulppersloods was the perfect "stage" for Typhoon's video. The video reflects a school, with dancing students in uniforms who all do the same thing and go in the same direction and who don't even seem to notice Typhoon. The spaciousness of de Pulppersloods, combined with the many steel pillars and artful use of shadow and light, effectively convey a sense of 'loneliness'.
Recording location with character
You may be familiar with SugarFactory from major TV productions such as 'Het Perfecte Plaatje', 'Masterchef Holland' and 'Het Beste Idee van Nederland'. But the recordings of the Ajax 'star campaign' and the partnership launch video of Just Eat Takeaway and the Champions League were also filmed at SugarFactory. During the lockdown, companies that wanted to showcase their networking events, new collections, or conferences to a large audience in a professional manner made use of the factory's livestreaming facilities.
