Culy Food Festival attracts many interested visitors
Halfweg – From special tacos to homemade dumplings or homemade bitterballen. Many interested visitors attended the Culy Food Festival in SugarFactory in Halfweg on Saturday and Sunday. "Something different for a change," said foodies, who enjoyed the varied offerings in the former sugar factory. It was particularly busy in de Middenfabriek and de Pulppersloods of the former sugar factory. There were various workshops, such as 'food photography & food styling', where you could learn how to arrange tableware and different types of food in the most attractive way possible. There was a Forgotten Vegetables Bingo and a real 'Eating Pharmacy'. Nienke and Fleur from the Food Pharmacy give all kinds of advice and tips on how to combat ailments such as colds, flu, or heartburn with food or herbs. 'This presentation is actually a pilot,' explains Nienke. 'We want to raise awareness among people through personal attention. We tend to reach for medication quickly, but you could also drink our four-wind tea. A mix of aniseed, fennel, mint, and cumin. We are already receiving many positive responses to our pharmacy.' Further along, at Henny Fish's stall, a beautiful platter of different types of fish is being put together. From plaice to salmon and mackerel to shrimp. For a few coins from the coin machine, you can buy yourself a meal like this.
'Naked dog hot dog'
De Zuivelmakers sells traditional, chunky yogurt, straight from the green heart of the country. A so-called 'naked dog hot dog from our own butcher shop' can be found at Brandt en Levie in de Middenfabriek. Judith, Michiel, and Roderik from Amsterdam are enjoying their hot dogs. 'The bun is made from yellowish brioche bread. I like that better than the limp white buns you often get with hot dogs,' they say. Judith tried the 'chili dog,' which contains coriander. That's something different, too.
Meanwhile, the so-called 'Rollong Beat Machine' has been built by a group of musicians led by Wouter Driessen from Wassenaar.
