SugarFactory has started renovating de Middenfabriek. The mezzanine on the second floor will be closed off, which will have several advantages. After the renovation, de Middenfabriek will be even more attractive for events and clients. De Middenfabriek is the beating heart of the former sugar factory and the largest event space at SugarFactory.
Under construction
Since the beginning of February, de Middenfabriek has been 'under construction'. Huge scaffolding has been erected for the construction work to close off the second floor. The installation of the floor will make de Middenfabriek more attractive as a (business) event location, while retaining all the elements that characterize the space. These include the dizzying heights (which spectacular acts have often made use of), the industrial staircase, and the underside of the characteristic boilers.
Benefits for events
This means that the temperature can be regulated much better after the renovation, which in turn saves costs for the client. On average, the warm-up time will only take one-third of the time to make de Middenfabriek comfortable compared to the warm-up time before the renovation. Because there will be less heat loss, energy consumption will be significantly reduced. Reducing the ecological footprint is becoming increasingly important, including when organizing events. SugarFactory is a circular event location where as much material as possible has been reused during the transformation from sugar factory to event location.
Special effects, mood lighting, and projections will also be much more effective after the new floor has been installed. Previously, daylight had to be blocked out for many productions, which incurred additional costs. Once the renovation is complete, this will be a thing of the past. Finally, the installation of the floor will also have a positive effect on the acoustics.
Sealing the floor preserves the industrial character of de Middenfabriek, but it also represents a significant modernization, bringing SugarFactory's industrial heritage into 2022.
