Noise reduction, acoustic improvement, and sustainability through replacement of roof dating from 1863: Event venue SugarFactory becomes more sustainable with renovated roof Middenfabriek
Halfweg, February 3, 2017 – De Middenfabriek of event venue SugarFactory in Halfweg is prepared for the future thanks to the replacement of the old roof of the former sugar factory dating from 1863. The new roof means that the factory location now meets a number of important sustainability requirements and is even more suitable for all kinds of events and occasions.
For example, the insulation in the new roof of de Middenfabriek significantly reduces ambient noise in the vicinity of the former sugar factory. In addition, the ridge of the event venue is now darkened as standard, so that the incoming sun does not have to be taken into account during projections and TV recordings.
Construction company Patina Dakbedekkingen Beverwijk B.V. used Rhinox insulation boards for the roof renovation. In addition to higher heat capacity and a reduction in ambient noise, the boards provide greatly improved acoustics in the factory. Ron Vriend of Patina Dakbedekkingen Beverwijk: "Rhinox is a pressure-resistant rock wool roof insulation board with a glass fleece of only 300 g/m2. The roof boards have an integrated hard top layer thanks to patented Dual Density production technology. The insulation board is very easy to walk on and has a high heat capacity, which keeps the temperature in the building consistent. The insulation saves energy at the location and therefore saves costs for the customer."
Managing Director Denise Schimmel of SugarFactory: "We are very happy with the new roof over our heads. This investment is part of the renovation plan to further improve the location and make it more sustainable. De Middenfabriek is easier to heat, which is expected to reduce the cost of heating the space by 30%. The standard blackout also creates a more intimate atmosphere, even during the day. Combined with the user-friendly and advanced LED lighting installed last year, this makes the location suitable for an even wider target group."
SugarFactory
SugarCity is located on the former site of the CSM Sugar Factory, just outside Amsterdam, and now has its 'own' train station right on its doorstep. The former sugar factory has recently been transformed into one of the leading new event locations. Due to its recent success, more and more new spaces are being added to this location, such as the recently added power plant: the Turbine Hall. With its unique buildings, offering a total of 21,000 square meters of event space, it forms the basis for many trade fairs, conferences, and events. Amsterdam and Haarlem are within a ten-minute drive, and Schiphol Airport is within a 15-minute drive. For two seasons now, the location has been the battleground for 'The Battles' and 'The Knockouts' of The Voice of Holland.
The SugarCity site is being developed by Cobraspen Vastgoedontwikkeling, the specialist in the restoration of monuments, industrial heritage, and the reuse of buildings and complexes in the Haarlem and Amsterdam regions. Cobraspen gives cultural and industrial heritage a new lease of life, thus preserving this heritage for the future. The sugar factory closed its doors in 1992.
